Canada defeats reigning champions US 4-2 in women’s ice hockey at Beijing Games

ANKARA (AA) – Canada beat reigning champions the US in the final group stage game in women’s ice hockey by a score of 4-2 Tuesday at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

The US advanced despite the loss because it placed second in Group A with 9 points behind leaders Canada which has 12 points.

Canada will take on Sweden in the quarterfinal round on Feb. 11. The US will face the Czech Republic.

Canada is looking for their fifth Olympic gold in the discipline while the US is trying to bag their third gold medal.

In the other quarterfinals, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will go against Switzerland and Finland will square off with Japan.

Tuesday’s Results:

US-Canada: 2-4

Japan-Czech Republic: 3-2

Sweden- Denmark: 3-1

Finland-ROC: 5-0
